Police Investigate Shooting That Occurred During Home Invasion: Reports

Police in North Miami Beach are investigating a shooting that happened during a reported home invasion.

A man was shot in the leg early Sunday morning during what may have been a home invasion, according to the home owner, which is at the 2100 block of Northeast 182nd Street in North Miami Beach.

Peter O’Shaugnessy rents the front portion of his house to a family of five people, which is where the shooting happened close to 2:15 Sunday morning.

"At first I thought it was a little argument within the family,” said O’Shaughnessy. “I rent out the house. I just keep, you know, mind my own business. Everyone goes through little problems. But I just heard loud banging and it just didn’t seem right and I was by the door and before I knew it, I started hearing gunfire.”

Reports suggest that between two and three people shot up the place and left the scene in a black Mercedes that does not belong to them, and left another black Mercedes, in which they arrived in, behind.

“They robbed one car and left that one, which you know, again, doesn’t make sense. They took off in one of the boyfriend’s car is what it looked like and they left theirs.”

About an hour later, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials were dispatched to the 200 block of Northwest 117th Street, where a black Mercedes Benz was found engulfed in flames.

The man who was shot was released from the hospital shortly after the incident.

Anyone with information on this incident is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
