A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Opa-locka Wednesday, authorities said.

Police say the woman was struck while walking in the area of Northwest 135th Street and Northwest 30th Avenue around 9:45 p.m. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Her identity hasn't been released, but friends said she was a mother who went by the name De-De.

"She was getting ready to go across the street and she seen her son, but when she snatched her son back, he caught her, she went airborne all the way across the street," friend Sislynn Brown said.

Police said the driver never stopped.

"It's very disheartening to us because that's someone's mother or sister...someone they just left at the scene," said police chief James Dobson.

All lanes were closed Wednesday night as authorities investigated the incident. An investigation is ongoing.

No further information was immediately available.
