Suspect in Custody After High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash in Miami-Dade

A carjacking suspect was taken into custody after a high-speed police chase ended in a crash in Miami-Dade Friday afternoon.

Miami-Dade Police officials said the incident began when the suspect carjacked an 85-year-old woman at knifepoint at the parking lot near the Dadeland shopping center.

Officers later spotted the car and the pursuit began. It ended when the suspect crashed into a parked car in the area of Southwest 1st Street and Southwest 5th Avenue.

Officers surrounded the car with guns drawn and quickly took the suspect into custody. 

Carlos Heriberto Escutary, 42, of Hialeah, faces charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, armed carjacking and aggravated assault on a person 65 years or older. It's unclear if he has an attorney.

The victim is from Brazil and was staying in Miami at the Dadeland Marriott, police said.
