Police Involved Shooting Reported at Aventura Mall: Police

A suspect was injured in a police-involved shooting at the parking garage at Aventura Mall Wednesday, officials said.

The shooting happened at the mall at 19555 Biscayne Boulevard in Aventura.

According to police, officers tried to stop a stolen vehicle on the second level of the garage but the driver refused.

When the suspect tried to drive over the officers, they opened fire, hitting him in the arm, officials said.

The suspect ended up hitting two police cars and a pillar.

"They attempted to strike with the vehicle one police officer's car and some civilian's vehicle and another police car and the mall," Aventura Police Sgt. Chris Goranitis said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene and an ambulance was seen leaving the garage.

The man who was shot suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said. He was later identified as 19-year-old Kenneth Taylor.

Taylor faces charges of grand theft auto, aggravated assault on a police officer, felony aggravated fleeing, use of a motor vehicle during the commission of a felony, resisting arrest with violence, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and having no valid driver's license.

A woman who was a passenger in the car with the man was also taken into custody. Quantazesha Moneisha Clark, 19, is facing trespass and resisting arrest charges. She also has active arrest warrants, police said.

It was unknown if they have attorneys.

No other injuries were reported. The mall remained opened Wednesday and operations weren't affected.
