Police-Involved Shooting Sends Robbery Suspect to Hospital

A robbery suspect is in the hospital after a string of thefts came to a violent end.

Hialeah police have confirmed to NBC 6 that a police-involved shooting took place Friday night and that a male and female suspect have been taken into custody.

Gunshots were heard around 6th Avenue and West 29th Street in Hialeah Friday night, close to a Farm Store.

Police said the business was the third in a string of armed robberies at Hialeah Farm Stores, which they accuse Yaico-Valdez Guzman and Yohana Acosta of perpetrating this month.

Officials said the two were caught due to surveillance they set up in area Farm Stores as part of the task force they created specifically to catch those criminal.s

“When we realized what was going on, we heard the police sirens. All the cars started arriving on scene, the police cars, the rescue,” said one business owner.

Area residents were alarmed after hearing the barrage of gunshots, involving Hialeah police around 10:30 Friday night.

One man, who was sleeping in the apartment building next door when it happened said he knows the employee who was on duty during the shooting.

“I ran, but in that moment, the police closed off the area and wouldn’t let me in. But I saw her stand up to show me she was okay … and I saw the guy lying on the floor, but I didn’t know what condition he was in,” said Orestes Padron, a nearby resident.

Padron spoke to the employee Saturday, who told him she was doing well, but was still emotionally affected.

Meanwhile, Hialeah police said the male suspect was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is currently in Intensive Care Unit.

Besides the male suspect, no one else was injured during the shooting.
