Police: Miami Beach Woman Beat Pregnant Roommate After Argument

A Miami Beach woman found herself behind bars after allegedly beating up her pregnant roommate during a fight Sunday afternoon.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Rosemary Cruz on charges including battery on a pregnant victim.

Investigators say Cruz got into an argument over a friend with the roommate before punching the victim. When the victim fell to the ground, police say Cruz started to kick the woman in her stomach.

The victim, who is four months pregnant, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for observation. Cruz, who told police she knew the victim was pregnant at the time of the attack, was also taken to the hospital for medical clearance after she fell during the fight and had a gash on her head.

Witnesses say they saw Cruz run after the victim with scissors during the fight, but dropped them before reaching the victim.

Cruz is behind held on $10,000 for the battery charge and is also being held on a warrant out of Polk County for a charge of resisting arrest with violence.
