Authorities were involved in a pursuit on the Florida's Turnpike in Broward County Friday morning that ended with a suspect in custody.

Broward Sheriff's Office officials said the chase began when detectives with the Pompano Beach Crime Suppression Team saw a man conceal a firearm and enter a store in the 500 block of Northwest 15th Street in Pompano Beach.

The man left the store and got into a white BMW, and when detectives tried to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect refused to stop and the pursuit began, officials said.

Deputies pursued the BMW onto the northbound lanes of the Turnpike, before the suspect bailed out of the car near the Pompano Beach Service Plaza and fled on foot, officials said.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody, and aerial footage showed him being led away in handcuffs.

A female passenger who was in the car was also detained, officials said.

Officials said a stolen firearm was recovered along with drugs. The suspect, whose name wasn't released, is a convicted felon with an active warrant out of Osceola County for fleeing and eluding, authorities said.
