Police Rescue of German Shepherd From North Lauderdale Canal Captured on Camera

Broward County Sheriff's Office deputies on Monday rescued a frightened and exhausted German Shepherd – named Shasta who belongs to another BSO deputy – from a North Lauderdale canal.

The deputies responded to a report of a dog trapped in a canal near the city's 6400 block of SW 7th Court.

"When Sgt. Tom Watkins, Deputy Nezar Hamze and Deputy Josh Stambaugh arrived they saw a frightened dog nervously treading water," BSO wrote in a statement. "They tried to coax her out without any luck. Deputy Stambaugh jumped into the water pulled out a very exhausted German Shepherd."

After a "bit of detective work," BSO deputies found that the dog belonged to BSO Deputy Doug Davis. Shasta is healthy and at home.
