Police Search for Hit-and-Run Driver Who Killed Pedestrian

Police are on the hunt for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a man early Sunday morning in northwest Miami-Dade.

The victim was a man in his late 40's with Cerebral Palsy, according to Miami-Dade Police. He had just left a supermarket in the area of NW 47th Street and 32nd Avenue and was seen slowly crossing the street.

That's when police said he was fatally hit by a dark-colored vehicle, which did not stop after striking the man.

"Because of his condition, he was crossing at a slow rate of speed, he can't run across the roadway," said Detective George Wilhelm II. "He's a helpless victim as he's crossing the roadway and he can't get out of the way of the vehicle."

Traffic homicide detectives are still searching for the suspect, and said the vehicle should have heavy front-end damage.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
