‘We Heard Like 60 Gunshots': 1 Dead, 6 Injured in Shooting Near Wynwood

Seven people were shot, one died, when a gunman opened fire near Wynwood Friday, police said.

The incident happened at approximately 11:53 p.m. Friday in the area of NW 1st Court and 20th Street.

Officers responding to the scene found several victims with apparent gunshot wounds.

Some of the victims drove themselves to the hospital, police said.

One of the victims went to the University of Miami Hospital, the other six went to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Witnesses say they heard about 60 gunshots go off and saw people running.

"We were just walking around and we heard like 60 gunshots," said witness Jeffery Combs. "We thought it was firecrackers for Memorial Day but now we find out that people were shot. It was really scary."

"I seen one on the ground just laying there," said Jawan Williams, who also witnessed the crime. "Trying to get help."

“Detectives are working tirelessly to bring the cowards involved in this violence to justice,” Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo said in a tweet.

Police have not yet released any information on the victims' identities or any information on the shooter.
