Police in Florida have shot a man accused of attacking a teenage girl who was walking her dog.
Multiple news outlets report the incident happened Sunday in Winter Springs.
Winter Springs Police Chief Kevin Brunelle says the girl was walking her dog before 4:30 p.m. when the unidentified man tried ripping off her pants. Brunelle says the teenager was able to fight him off and run home, where her mother called police.
Officers responded to the man's home, where Brunelle says the man brandished a knife and advanced toward them. Officials say that's when one officer opened fire, hitting the man. The suspect was taken to the hospital.
The girl wasn't hurt and no officers were injured.
The officer who opened fire is on paid administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation. The races of those involved in the shooting weren't immediately available.
