Police Veteran Killed in Crash in Coral Springs

Coral Springs Police is investigating a two-car collision that killed a police officer early Saturday morning.

According to officials, the two car collision happened in Coral Springs at the intersection of Wiles Road and State Road 7 on Saturday around 2:30 a.m.

Investigators say a 1995 Jeep Wrangler driven by Christopher Sheehan, 30, was northbound on State Road 7 when it was rear-ended by a 2010 Dodge Challenger driven by Joselyn Lopez, 29. Investigators added that speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors in this crash.

Sheehan was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of the crash, officials say. Sheehan’s passenger, Jacob Snowwhite, 41, was transported to Northwest Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Lopez was not injured as a result of the crash.

According to published reports, Sheehan's father is a retired Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue Division Chief. Sheehan is a seven-year police veteran with Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

Fort Lauderdale Police released a statement that says in part: "As you are aware, this is an on-going investigation by the Coral Springs Police Department.  As such, we will have no further comment at this time.  We ask that you please respect Detective Christopher Sheehan’s family and our agency during this difficult and grieving moment."

Coral Springs Police are asking anyone with information or that may have been in the area and observed the crash to contact (954) 346-1754.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Sheehan's family, which can be found here.
