Police at scene of hit and run crash on Collins Avenue

A man was killed and a woman was arrested after a hit and run crash in Miami Beach Monday morning.

The incident happened around 6 a.m. outside the Shelborne Hotel at 1801 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach Police spokeswoman Det. Vivian Hernandez said.

According to police, Stefano Riccioletti, 49, a chef at the Shore Club, was thrown some 30 feet by the impact from the car and was killed at the scene.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He was a valued member of our team and will be greatly missed," said Lucy Martin, general manager of the Shore Club, in an email statement.

The female driver, Karlie Tomica, 20, was arrested in the 5600 block of Collins Avenue, police said. She faces a charge of leaving the scene of a crash/death and was booked into jail on Monday night on $10,000 bond, according to online jail records. She was later released.

Police said a witness to the crash followed the driver to an aprtment complex where she was arrested.

"This witness helped us out tremendously," Miami Beach Police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said.

"Obviously, she should have stopped right there, see if the guy's OK, if not, call for help," said neighbor Joe Blaikie.

Meanwhile, at their Pembroke Pines home, Riccioletti's wife was too heartbroken to speak but shared a photo of him and his children.

"I couldn't imagine my family going through that," Blaikie said.

A tow truck hauled away Tamico's car. It had damage to the windshield on the passenger's side.

It wasn't immediately known if Tamico had an attorney.
