Potential Tropical Cyclone Six formed off the coast of Africa Thursday and was expected to become a tropical storm by Friday.
The system had maximum sustained winds of 30 mph and was moving west about 425 miles east-southeast of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Strengthening was anticipated as the system was expected to gradually turn toward the west-northwest, according to the NHC.
The system was not expected to affect South Florida.
