Proposed Bill Would Ban Pets From Florida Restaurants

What to Know

  • Service animals would not be barred under the proposed bill.

Pet owners across the state of Florida could soon be asking “who kept the dogs out” if a proposed bill is passed during the upcoming legislative session.

The bill, proposed this week by Democratic State Rep. Bruce Antone of Orlando, would prohibit household pets from being inside of public food establishments “in order to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the public” according to the News Service of Florida.

The bill would direct the state’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation to adopt rules that would keep existing local ordinances in place as well as create a website for complaints.

Service animals would not be barred under the proposed bill.

The bill would be considered during the session that is scheduled to start on January 14th.
