Raul Valdes-Fauli Wins Coral Gables Mayoral Race

Voters in Coral Gables elected the city's former mayor into office once again.

Attorney Raul Valdes-Fauli won 51 percent of the vote Tuesday, while his opponent, Commissioner Jeannett Slesnick, finished with 48 percent, with all 23 precincts reporting. The election came down to just 200 votes.

Valdes-Fauli served as the city's mayor from 1993-2011 and returns to office 15 years later.

"Running to serve as your Mayor these past several months has been an honor and one of the great joys of my life," Valdes-Fauli said. "I want to congratulate Jeannett Slesnick on an admirable campaign and thank her for the passion she exhibited for Coral Gables."

The mayoral race took a contentious turn in the final weeks, but Valdes-Fauli said he looks forward to working with Slesnick on key issues.

"I hope we can come together and collaborate for the betterment of our community," the mayor-elect said.
