Redesign Plans for Lincoln Road in Miami Beach Unveiled

Miami Beach residents and tourists could soon see some major changes along Lincoln Road. The official proposal for a redesign was revealed on Tuesday.

Residents got a sneak peek of the plans at Miami Beach City Hall, and most had a positive response.

"I think the changes are an improvement," Stephanie Bou-Ghannam said.

"It seems like a really cool project. Like the renderings look amazing, so I think it will be a really good addition to the city," Theresa Wymer added.

Some of the new and improved proposals include widening the sidewalks to include more cafe seating, more lighting and tinted concrete paving. The plan also includes more outdoor spaces for public performances and even opening up outside gallery spaces with rotating art murals.

"It's kind of a mess, so I think that this is a good merger of organization but also kind of respecting the history that exists on Lincoln Road," Bou-Ghannam said.

There will be more green spaces and cyclists will be happy to hear there are plans to install more bike lanes. With the redesign and as more big stores pop up, some residents said they do have some concerns, but they're open to gradual changes.

"There's room for improvement. I don't think they should remove everything. I think they need to look block by block and make decisions on what could stand improvement," Ken Lyon said.

The architecture firm, James Corner Field Operation, is behind the proposal. They said they want to respect the past but update it for the future of Lincoln Road.

These plans are not final and may evolve after input from the public. All the plans must now be passed by the City Commission and Historic Preservation Board.
