Retired Marine Shot in Robbery in Miami Gardens

Man shot in apparent robbery in Miami Gardens, airlifted to hospital.

A retired U.S. Marine was hospitalized after he was shot in an apparent robbery in Miami Gardens Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. in the front yard of a home in the 15800 block of Northwest 22nd Court.

The victim's wife and son identified him as 64-year-old Robert Outler, a former Marine who served two tours of duty in Vietnam.

"It just seem like a nightmare, that's what it seem like," wife Mia Outler said.

Outler was arriving home when someone put a gun to his head and tried to rip the gold chain from around his neck, the son said.

Mia Outler said she and the rest of the family woke up when they heard the gunshot.

"We all got up and went to check to see what it was and that's when we saw him bent over bleeding," she said.

The son said Outler was shot in the shoulder. He was taken by helicopter to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he is expected to survive.

Police haven't given any details about the incident and haven't said who they may be looking for.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
