The father of a Hallandale Beach teen who was murdered nearly a decade ago is hoping an increased reward will help lead police to her killer.
August 19 marks the 9-year anniversary of the murder of 17-year-old Marissa Karp, who was shot in the head and had her body stuffed into a plastic bag and dumped in the Everglades.
"There's never closure for families like ours, but we're just hoping for justice," said father Gary Karp, speaking at a news conference Friday with Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti. "Detectives are very close, they just need that one tip to solve the puzzle."
The reward for information has been increased to $10,000. As of now, there are no suspects and no motives in the murder.
"We think someone out there knows something, and maybe they'll be motivated by that $10,000 reward," Karp said.
Last year, a digital billboard message was put up off I-95 at Hallandale Beach Boulevard featuring a photo of Melissa Karp.
