Robbery Suspects Arrested Driving Stolen Vehicle: Coconut Creek Police

Coconut Creek Police arrested three men suspected of robbing a woman, while also driving a stolen vehicle Friday.

At around 6:09 p.m., Coconut Creek Police officers responded to a robbery attempt of a woman’s purse at a Publix located at 4849 Coconut Creek Parkway.

According to authorities, while the woman was walking toward her car in the parking lot, she was approached by Tavares Lewis, 33 who attempted to grab her purse from her shopping cart. When Lewis realized the purse was tied down to the cart and couldn’t make off with it, he quickly jumped into an awaiting car driven by 29-year-old Gimel Allen. The third suspect Joshua White, 34, held the door open for Lewis as he jumped in.

The vehicle was described as a 2001 Buick Century, white in color, with Florida temporary tag. Police located the vehicle driving east on Copans Road shortly after the incident. The vehicle was stopped in Pompano Beach without incident.

After a positive identification, all three men were placed under arrest.

Officials say that the getaway vehicle was stolen out of West Palm Beach, and the temporary tag that was attached was stolen out of Fort Lauderdale.

The three men will be charged with Robbery by Sudden Snatching, Auto Theft, Possession of Stolen Tag, Principal in the First Degree, and Driving with a Suspended License.
