Roberta Jacobson in Miami to Discuss U.S.-Cuba Relations

Assistant Secretary of State Roberta Jacobson took part in a meeting with local business leaders at Miami-Dade College in downtown Miami Thursday to discuss the ongoing talks and negotiations between the U.S. and Cuba.

Jacobson is currently touring Miami and meeting with various leaders to gauge community reaction to the normalization of relations between the two countries.

She is one of two American diplomats leading the negotiations between the U.S.and Cuba.

Several dozen people attended Thursday's meeting, including Antonio Villamil of The Washington Economics Group Inc. who spoke exclusively to NBC 6 South Florida. He revealed some of what was discussed at the meeting.

"Embassy, telecommunications and more assistance to entrepreneurship groups that are being developed," Villamil said. "Basically, the same issues that you have seen before."

Other topics included economics and the Cuban embargo. The meeting lasted about 90 minutes.

Some who attended today said the meeting "lacked specifics," and that one of the main takeaways was that this is going to be a slow process.

There has been some resistance to the warming of relations between the U.S. and Cuba, including several of today's attendees who openly expressed their disapproval of the normalization of relations.
