Roof Remains Intact After Being Strapped Down During Irma

A South Florida man went viral after photos of his home’s roof being strapped down were spread all over social media.

The homeowner said it was all about prevention – and it worked! The straps held down the roof through strong winds and heavy rain during Hurricane Irma.

Jesus Diaz was afraid the roof would blow off. And while the straps are gone, the roof stayed put. His home didn’t sustain damage, either.

The only damage done to the home was to a mango tree. The tree had to be removed for safety reasons. It fell and damaged one of their sheds.

Diaz says it all goes back to Cuba. In Cuba, they had to tie everything down during storms and hurricanes, so it was a lesson they learned there and put into practice here.
