School Bus Crashes Into House in Deerfield Beach

Driver cited, no one injured as bus goes through wall and into home

It was a rough start to the morning for a Broward school bus driver who crashed into a Deerfield Beach home Wednesday.

The crash happened shortly after 8 a.m. in the area of Northeast 7th Avenue and Hillsboro Boulevard.

According to Broward School District spokeswoman Marsy Smith, the driver had just dropped off five students at Deerfield Beach Elementary School and was on his way to make other pickups when the crash happened.

The driver was the only person inside at the time of the crash and wasn't injured, Smith said.

Smith said the driver had indicated there had been problems with the brakes but the cause of the crash is still being investigated.

Broward Sheriff's Office officials identified the driver as 64-year-old Vincent Adolphus Robinson. He was issued citations for careless driving and failure to use due care.

Robinson told deputies that he had no brakes and panicked, pumping the brakes before it went across a parking lot, through a wall and into the home.

District buses are inspected every 28 to 30 days and that includes brake inspection, Smith said.

"All of a sudden I hear boom, crash, bang, glass flying," said Jacqueline Castro, who was watching the morning news when she heard the school bus accident.  "I am shocked...look at this house it is such a mess, I have to go through that again I had a lot of damage with Wilma."
