Kids Escape Injury in Hollywood School Bus Crash

Six special needs students escaped injury Tuesday afternoon when the bus they were riding in was involved in an accident with two other cars in Hollywood.

The crash happened in the area of 52nd Avenue and Harrison Street Tuesday afternoon. Hollywood Police said it appeared the bus may have run a stop sign when the collision with a black car and an orange Honda Civic happened.

Neighbor John Barchi said he heard the collision and it sounded like a bomb exploded. He went to the scene to try to free a man who was trapped in the Civic, but the efforts failed until paramedics arrived.

β€œPoor guy sat there for about, it seemed like an eternity,” said John Barchi. β€œI’m thinking like 20 minutes before somebody showed up. Then they took quite a while.”

The bus driver was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, but his condition wasn’t released. Police said two passengers inside the Honda that was behind the bus were taken to the hospital, one of the passenger was a trauma alert.

The roads have since re-opened and Hollywood Police said the accident remains under investigation.
