Sea Turtle to Be Released After Hook Removed From Esophagus

Susan will be released Monday at Sombrero Beach in Marathon.

A loggerhead sea turtle named Susan is set to return home after a 3 1/2-inch stainless steel hook was removed from her esophagus.

Susan will be released back into the ocean at Sombrero Beach in Marathon on Monday

The turtle was found in March floating 20 yards from a dock in Tavernier. She was taken to Marathon's Turtle Hospital, where veterinarians removed the hook and gave her antibiotics, vitamins and a healthy diet of fish and squid. Susan now weighs more than 100 pounds and is fully recovered.

Susan (pictured below) will arrive at Sombrero Beach in the hospital's turtle ambulance at 5 p.m. to be released at 5:30 p.m.
