Search for Puppy-napper Who Stole Dachshund From Pembroke Pines Pet Store

The search is on for a puppy that was snatched from a South Florida pet store.

A man who was pretending to be a customer was caught on camera stealing the puppy from the Petland store in Pembroke Pines Monday afternoon.

Alexa Hernandez was working when it happened. She said she and her coworkers didn't notice anything suspicious until it was too late.

"Basically took advantage of the fact that it was really busy at store," she said.

The missing pup is a Dachshund who is only two-months-old. Around the pet store he's known as Stanley. He was on display like the rest of these dogs when a man who appeared to be interested in buying him asked for help.

The employee took Stanley out of his kennel to give the potential buyer the opportunity to get better acquainted with him in a play cubicle. That's where Stanley was last seen.

Once the suspect was in the cubical with the dog, surveillance video showed the employee step away.

"When he asked about the price she had to go in the back to check," Hernandez said.

That's when you see the man take off the backpack, stuff the dog inside and immediately walk out of store.

Once he was gone, the employees noticed Stanley was missing too and the store owner called police.
