Mother, Friend Left 4-Year-Old in Car For 2 Hours As They Gambled: Cops

Two people are facing charges after a 4-year-old child was discovered alone in a car in the parking lot of Seminole Classic Casino, police said.

Nancy Joseph, 36, and Salomon Baptise, 34, were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of child neglect, according to inmate records.

The child, who is Joseph's daughter, was discovered at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday after a Seminole police officer heard her crying during a nearby traffic stop. She had been left there for two hours with the windows rolled up and the door unlocked while the pair gambled inside, police said.

The girl was taken to Joe Dimaggio hospital and later released to a family friend.

A representative for the Department of Children and Families, which is investigating the case, said the agency has had prior contact with the family.
