Florida Sen. Bill Nelson is recovering after undergoing successful prostate surgery in Washington.
The senator announced last week he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
"Bill wants to thank all the people in Florida and elsewhere who sent prayers and well wishes," his wife Grace said following the operation. "The doctors, nurses and staff caring for him are all just great."
Sen. Nelson's recovery is expected to take at least a week.
The senator has said the diagnosis will not affect his plan to run for a fourth Senate term in 2018.
