Setbacks Hampered Search for NFL Boaters

TAMPA - Coast Guard officials say a broken-down C-130 airplane and a malfunctioning radar system made the search for missing NFL players whose boat capsized more difficult.

Rough weather and 14-foot seas also hampered the search. One crew reported that a storm front moved halfway into its search area and it was only able to effectively search 40 percent of the zone.

Still, there were plenty of airplanes and helicopters searching. Private planes took up the effort after the Coast Guard called theirs off.

The lone survivor, Nick Schuyler said the three others on the boat, Marquis Cooper, Corey Smith and William Bleakley took off their life jackets one by one and disappeared in the sea.
