Two people were killed and two others injured in a shooting during a cockfight in a remote area of southwest Miami-Dade, police said Monday.
Agustin Figueredo, 67, and an unidentified man in his 80s, were fatally shot in the Sunday night incident, while Rafael Garcia, 40, and Angel Rivera, 49, were injured, Miami-Dade Police said.
Police said a crowd of people were watching a cockfight when an altercation occurred and shots were fired, and the four people were shot. It happened at 7:42 p.m. at the property on 196th Avenue and Southwest 168th Street, where more than a dozen roosters in cages were also found.
Two of the people were pronounced dead on the scene, and the other two were taken to the hospital.
"It is a remote area so crime scene investigators have their job worked out for them, cut out for them," Zabaleta said. "In order to be able to process exactly everything that occurred, to photograph, to take a look, because of the fact that you have the difficulty of the light, you have the open area.".
Family members of possible victims showed up at the scene late Sunday seeking answers.
"It was just one big shootout, just one big shootout and possibly my father may have been involved," said Christian Figueredo.
Police are still investigating the shooting and Zabaleta said they believe more people may have been at the property but left after the incident.
