A 20-year-old was shot and killed and a four-year-old was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds Friday night in Miramar.

The incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. near the 6100 block of Northwest 40th Court.

Police are still investigating what caused the shooting, although they believe that the 20-year-old was the intended target.

According to police, the little girl and the victim knew each other but weren’t related. They were both outside when they were shot by someone either on foot or from inside a car. It’s not clear whether it was a drive-by shooting, but police confirmed that a vehicle was involved.

The gunman got away and police have yet to give a description for the suspect or suspects.

“We’re not exactly sure where the child was shot,” said Det. Natasaha Richardson of Miramar Police. “They’re still trying to get witness statements plus investigations plus trying to notify family members and next of kin.”

Police said the little girl is expected to be okay.
