Drive-By Shooting Kills 14-Year-Old Boy in Miami

A teenager shot and killed Friday night is the second victim to die in an apparent drive-by shooting this week in Miami-Dade.

According to Miami Police, 14-year-old Gabriel Figueroa was standing in the street with some friends on the 1200 block of NW 52nd Street around 8 p.m. That's when police say a car drove up and opened fire, hitting Figueroa in the chest.

He was able to run inside a house, where he collapsed. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, where he later died.

Figueroa's mother, Modesta Centeno, told NBC 6 her son was a good boy and an excellent student. She said he never went out, except for this fateful night.

When asked what she would say to the shooter, Centeno said in Spanish, “My God, show some compassion. Put your hand over your heart, because this is not easy for a mother.”

Police are now looking for at least one gunman. Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
