Shots Fired at Hallandale Beach Steak n' Shake Restaurant

Police are investigating after shots were fired at a Hallandale Beach restaurant early Monday morning.

Terrence Hicks was taking out the trash at the Steak n' Shake, where he works, when suddenly bullets blasted through the parking lot Monday morning.

"Everybody was leaving and moving as fast as they could," said Hicks.

It happened before 4 a.m. on South Federal Highway near Hallandale Beach Boulevard. Hicks stayed away from the windows, while people started calling their loved ones.

"The cops showed up, they surrounded the building," explains Hicks.

The gunfire hit cars and not people, but it left Hicks full of questions: "What was it really about? You know, why would they shoot at this place of all places?"

Gunfire struck Frederick Pearlman's 98 Chevy van. He was asleep at a nearby Hampton Inn and found out from a wake up call.

"I thought that that's a first, it just celebrated a hundred thousand miles never taken a bullet."

Pearlman says officers told him the gunfire was actually meant for another car in the parking lot, and the violence may have been gang-related.

He's just glad things weren't any worse.

"Listen no one got hurt, if it was an assassination attempt on me, they missed," says Hicks.
