Smoke May Close 30-Mile Stretch of Alligator Alley Sunday

The Florida Highway Patrol may close down a 30-mile stretch of Alligator Alley due to heavy smoke.

Officials said Sunday's smoky condition are causing limited visibility between mile markers 70 and 65 so that drivers can only see half a mile to three quarters of a mile in front of them.

Officials warned they may need to shut down Alligator Alley between mile markers 80 at State Road 29 in Collier County and mile marker 49 at Snake Road in Broward County. They encouraged drivers to come up with a back-up plan.

Alligator Alley is the main road connecting southeast and southwest Florida.
