Social Media Threat Prompts Investigation at High School in Pembroke Pines

A social media threat at West Broward High School in Pembroke Pines prompted a large investigation Thursday morning.

According to Pembroke Pines Police, they were made aware of threatening posts on social media involving West Broward High School.

The posts were alleged to have been made by a former student of the school.

Police took precautionary measures to make sure that students and faculty at the school were safe by adding more officers at the campus.

Officials have located the person responsible for making the threats. It’s unclear if they have been detained or arrested at this time.

The principal of West Broward High School sent out a note on the incident saying, β€œI want to make you aware that West Broward High School, students and staff, have been alerted to postings on Social Media that are perceived as threatening. The Pembroke Pines Police Department is investigating. As a proactive measure, and to ensure a safe and orderly school day, extra safety precautions are in place on our campus today. We ask parents to monitor the activities of their children when it comes to social media. The safety and security of our students and staff are always our highest priorities.”
