South Florida Celebrates Cuban Independence Day

May 20 is Cuban Independence Day and South Florida locals are celebrating the annual Cuban holiday.

In Hialeah, Milam K-8 students and school board members, held an event where they celebrated Cuban heritage and its historical ties with the United States.

In Tamiami, local high school students and school board members celebrated at Tamiami Park featuring speakers from the University of Miami’s Cuban and Cuban-American Studies program.

Cuban Independence Day began in 1902 when Cuba reached its independance from Spain.
