Going on vacation doesn’t always mean staying in a four-star hotel or a fancy bed and breakfast. For some people, vacation homes are far more appealing -- and South Florida seems to have an abundance of them, according to a new report from Expedia.
The report highlights Miami Beach, North Miami and a number of other Florida cities as being top vacation home destinations. Real estate company Redfin determined the rankings by looking at populations of at least 1,000 people and weighing in factors like livability, growth in a city’s listing views and the number of “seasonal” homes available in a particular region.
The “livability” factor was calculated using a “Walk Score” -- proximity to various amenities -- and population size.
Miami Beach is touted for its selection of waterfront vacation homes -- 54 percent of the properties are “right on the water.” Meanwhile, North Miami is lauded for its access to Miami and Fort Lauderdale. (To be fair, 20 percent of North Miami’s vacation homes are also on the waterfront.)
Other Florida cities that made the list include Clearwater and Orlando. For the complete list, click here.
