South Florida Landmark Knaus Berry Farms Re-Opens Tuesday

If you’ve been craving the delicious cinnamon buns, pies or produce from one of South Florida’s most iconic locations, the wait is over as Knaus Berry Farms reopened their doors on Tuesday.

Hundreds were in line by mid morning and some made sure they got there first, arriving at 5:30 a.m.

"I want to be the first person in line right now to actually enjoy when they first come out of the oven," said Julio, the first man in line.

Located in Southwest Miami-Dade for over 60 years, the farm and store open for approximately six months each year, usually in October and November and running through April to give residents and tourists a chance to enjoy the yummy items that have become a staple for some that grew up in the area.

The family owned farm, which traces its roots back to the mid-1920’s when the Knaus family moved from Missouri to South Florida and bought a farm not far from what is now Homestead Air Reserve Base, has become popular for its cinnamon rolls as well as strawberries that can be picked and milkshakes made fresh on site.

"In 1956, two brothers started growing strawberries and after four, five years, my mother-in-law started selling cookies on the side of the road, with the strawberries and the bakeries kind of progressed after that," said bakery manager Thomas Blocher.

Knaus Berry Farms, which is cash only and located at 15980 SW 248th Street, is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (or until they sell out) Mondays through Saturdays with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
