South Florida Police Officer Suspended Amid Harassment Claim

A South Florida police officer has been suspended amid allegations that he harassed a 17-year-old girl after she made an illegal U-turn.

Hialeah police Chief Sergio Velazquez said Thursday that the department is investigating the claims against Sgt. Jesus "Jessie" Menocal Jr.

The teen was taken to the police station where she complained she'd been harassed.

Velazquez says police leaders met with the Miami-Dade's state attorney's officials on Monday to coordinate delivery of the evidence. He called the investigation ``a very delicate road'' and said if wrongdoing is proven, the "appropriate decision will be taken."

Menocal was suspended with pay on Sunday. He is a member of the SWAT team and has worked for the department for eight years. His father retired as police chief of nearby Sweetwater in May.
