Teoana Banton has only been running for a little over a year, but track meet after track meet the 10-year-old speeds past her competition.
"It's just a very fun sport," Banton said.
Currently ranked No. 1 in the nation in the 100-meter dash, Banton says she hopes to bring home the gold at this year's Junior Olympics.
"I feel good, but I think I need to practice more and go harder," she said.
Both Banton's mother and grandmother are former runners, and they say it's all in the genes.
"I feel very blessed to have her go to the Olympics because she did very well," grandmother Miriam Malcolm said. "She's doing what I didn't get to do, even though I was a runner."
With close to a week left for the Junior Olympics in Iowa, Banton's mother Michelle Easy has only been able to raise about $1,000 for a trip she estimates will cost at least $5,000.

"I'm a single mom and I've been trying," Easy said.
Now, it's a race against time to get the funds for the July 25th competition.
"She's like a little mouse that's trying to get that cheese," Malcolm said. "Trust me, she'll do it!"
