South Miami Judoka Angelica Delgado's Olympics End Early

Angelica Delgado knew it could happen, but she still never planned for it.

After years of training for her Olympic moment, the Cuban-American Judoka from South Miami got eliminated in her opening match against Tsolmon Adiyasambuu from Mongolia.

"Today just wasn't my day," Delgado said moments after her loss.

With tears in her eyes, Delgado explained how things flipped in an instant.

"I was controlling most of the match and I got the upper hand from the beginning," Delgado, who trains in Coconut Creek said. "But I was just careless on one exchange and that's all it takes in this sport unfortunately."

Delgado was visibly devastated but still vowed to return to the Olympics in 2020.

"Unfortunately, it'll take another 4 years to get here, but I'm ready," she said.

Delgado got into Judo because of her father who was a member of the Cuban National Team before defecting.

She had this message for her fans in Miami: "Thank you for all the support and the nice messages. I know you guys believed in me and I let you guys down, but I'm going to keep going."
