Spence-Jones Holds Her Own Swearing In Ceremony

Spence-Jones was cleared of criminal charges earlier this year

Michelle Spence-Jones has been back in a office for a week, but she put on a rousing public show Thursday to announce that she was back at Miami City Hall.

The formerly suspended city commissioner held a swearing in ceremony at Charles Hadley Park in front of hundreds of supporters that included a church choir and a host of local elected officials.

"Today I stand here stronger, wiser, a better public servant, ready to serve the underserved by making sure they receive their fair share of the goods and services from the City of Miami,” Spence-Jones said.

Spence-Jones was allowed back in her District 5 seat after being acquitted of bribery charges earlier this year and then having theft charges against her dismissed last month.

She returned to her City Hall office last week, ending Richard Dunn's time as her replacement. Spence-Jones had been suspended while she fought the criminal charges.

During the 90-minute ceremony, Spence-Jones thanked Dunn for his work while she was away and thanked her supporters for sticking behind her.

The entire city commission, including Mayor Tomas Regalado, attended the event.
