Store Clerk Pistol-Whipped During Robbery at Lauderhill Smoke Shop

A clerk at a Lauderhill smoke shop was pistol-whipped during a stick-up last month, police said.

Police released surveillance video Tuesday of the crime that happened June 19 at the Smoke Shop located on N. University Drive just south of Commercial Boulevard.

Two men stormed into the store around 11 p.m. with their guns drawn, demanding cash. Two customers were inside the store, but one managed to run out. A female customer was held at gunpoint by one of the robbers as the second robber ran to the back of the store.

The store clerk gave the suspects money from the cash register, but before the crooks left, one of the robbers bashed the clerk in the head with a gun.

The owner of the shop, Reef Lakhani, was stunned when he learned about the hold up.

"I get a picture of stained blood on the floor I just immediately rush over her to see what happened," said Lakhani.

The robbers got away with $500 and other items, police said. The owner said $800 in cash was stolen.

"It's not necessarily the money which is the thing. It's just number one, getting taken advantage of that's always the worst feeling, and number 2 when you want your employees to feel safe at work," said Lakhani. He added that he's beefing up security by adding more cameras and staff at the store.
