An argument over candy turned violent after a convenience store owner shot a customer who he thought was trying to rob him.
Tamer Hanna was charged with attempted murder for shooting Marquice Williams in the head after the two got into a fight Tuesday in West Palm Beach, WPTV reports.
The shooting is the second violent incident in the past seven days involving a South Florida store clerk and a customer. Last week, a Miami store owner beat a man to death with a crowbar after they got into an argument over seven cents.
Hanna thought Williams was trying to steal three small boxes of candy, but it turned out Williams was trying to return the candy to a customer who had forgot it at the check-out counter, police said.
Two women who were with Williams told police their friend had noticed the customer ahead of him walk outside without the candy. When Williams grabbed the boxes and went outside to return it to the woman, Hanna quickly followed and accused the man of stealing.
The two got into a scuffle and that's when Hanna went back inside and, instead of calling authorities, grabbed a hand gun and fired at Williams, who was getting in his car.
The bullet hit Williams in the head. He is in critical condition.
