About 200 Miami-Dade Public Schools students participated in the University of Miami's 25th Hurricane Challenge on Friday.
The annual event is put on by UM's Department of Physical Therapy and exclusively invites students living with disabilities for a day of sun and fun, and for UM students, a chance to get some real-life experience.
"Part of our job is learning to work with a variety of disabilities, and we just want to work with the children and learn more about what they've got going on and give them a day of activities so that we can learn and they can enjoy the day at the University of Miami," Mia Rothenberg, one of the co-organizers of the event.
UM students set up a variety of activities for the Hurricane Challengers to enjoy including hula hooping, golfing and soccer.
Miami Dade student Marie Louis gave the event a rave review.
"I'm just having a good time in here. It's so awesome," Louis said.
