Chopper 6 was over a mass walkout involving students from Deerfield Beach High School, who reportedly were set to walk the 14 miles from their school to the Parkland campus were 17 people lost their lives on February 14th.

The walkout and march comes two days after massive events took place at schools across Broward and Miami-Dade counties, including thousands of students holding demonstrations at Cypress Bay High in Weston, Western High in Davie and Hialeah High School among others.

In the days that followed the Parkland school tragedy, students held protests outside schools in Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale among other locations – while nearly 1,000 students walked out from West Boca High School and took the 11 mile trip on foot to Parkland.

Students across the area have shown solidarity with their fellow teenagers from Douglas who have begun the push for reforms in the state and across the country – a push that included over 100 students arriving at Florida’s Capitol building earlier this week to speak with elected officials, including Gov. Rick Scott.
