A police officer from Sunny Isles Beach was involved in an early morning crash that caused lane closures on the Florida Turnpike along the county line between Miami-Dade and Broward.

Officers and rescue crews arrived at the scene just before 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes just after Northwest 57th Avenue. Chopper footage showed the airbags deployed in the police SUV while two others vehicles appeared to also be involved.

Floida Highway Patrol officials said the officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, but have not released information on the condition of anyone else involved or what caused the crash as their investigation continues.

Traffic was reduced to one lane and backups continued for miles during much of the morning rush hour.
