Suspect Arrested in Armed Sexual Battery in Fort Lauderdale

A man accused of sexually battering a woman at knife-point in Fort Lauderdale was behind bars Tuesday.

Christopher Mackey, 35, was taken into custody on August 10 and is facing charges of sexual battery with a weapon and kidnapping to commit a felony, Fort Lauderdale Police said.

Mackey was being held without bond Tuesday, jail records showed. It was unknown if he's hired an attorney.

The incident happened August 3 in the 600 block of Northwest 3rd Avenue, when the woman was approached by Mackey, police said. He forced her into an abandoned building where he sexually battered her then fled the scene, police said.

According to police, a sketch released by Broward Crime Stoppers led to the identification of Mackey as a suspect. The Broward Sheriff's Office crime lab later found that DNA belonging to Mackey was found in forensic evidence obtained from the victim, police said.

The victim also identified Mackey as the man who sexually battered her, police said.
