Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Man at Coral Springs Home

Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man outside a Coral Springs home last month.

Tevaughn Jerome Campbell, 27, was arrested Thursday night on a first-degree murder charge in the Oct. 29 shooting of 48-year-old Hicksbert Dwight Grant, Coral Springs Police said.

Grant was found shot at the home near Northwest 38th Street and 72nd Drive. He was taken to Broward Health North where he later died. Neighbors said he leaves behind a wife and young daughter.

Police said in a Friday news conference that Campbell allegedly killed Grant under the pretense that he had just withdrawn money from the bank.

"Ironically, he went to the bank to make a deposit, so he didn't have anything major on him," Sgt. Scott Myers said. "He was just randomly targeted by a viscous predator."

"It's horrendous," he added. "When you have a truly innocent victim that is stalked from going to an ATM to his front yard in unimaginable."

Police said Campbell was arrested with the help of police in Coconut Creek and the Broward Sheriff's Office crime lab.

"Due to a collaborated effort between jurisdictions, Campbell was arrested and taken off the streets preventing any further victims," police said in a statement.

Campbell was being held without bond Friday, Broward County jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
