One suspect was arrested and another hospitalized in critical condition after jumping off a highway overpass following a police chase that started in Pompano Beach and ended in Palm Beach County Monday night, authorities said.
The incident began around 8:30 p.m. when deputies spotted a vehicle that had been involved in an armed carjacking in Pompano Beach Sunday night and the driver fled northbound on the Florida's Turnpike, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.
Deputies were able to stop the vehicle near the overpass of the Turnpike at Lake Worth Road using a PIT maneuver, authorities said. But the passenger of the car jumped off the overpass, landing in the median of Lake Worth Road, authorities said.
The passenger was taken to Delray Medical Center in critical condition. The driver was taken into custody. Officials didn't release the identities of the suspects but said they are both juveniles.
